MLicServer allows administrators to configure how many days a Campus License remains reserved on a client computer before requiring renewal.

The setting can be configured manually on both Windows and Linux systems.

Note: The minimum supported value is 30 days.

1. Windows

You have to create, if it's the first time you set this value, or modify, if you already did it before and want to set another value, a Registry

1.1. Opening the Registry Editor

1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
2. Type: regedit
3. Click OK.
4. If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes.

1.2. MLicServer 3.0 and newer

1. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mestrelab Research S.L.\MLicServer\Settings
2. Create the value CampusDays if it does not exist yet:
   • Click on Edit → New → DWORD (32-bit) Value
   • Type CampusDays to name it
3. Double click on either the existent or recenctly created value, CampusDays to set the value:
   • Ensure the Base is set to Decimal to type a decimal number
4. After modifying the value, restart the MLicServer service or application.
   • Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
   • Type services.msc
   • Click **OK**
   • Search and select _Mestrelab License Server _service.
   • Open the context menu by right clicking on it
   • Press Restart

1.3. Legacy Versions (MLicServer < 3.0)

Versions prior to 3.0 were distributed as 32-bit binaries, therefore the Registry key will differ regarding if your Windows OS is 32-bit or 64-bit:

• On 64-bit Windows systems, the setting will be stored under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mestrelab Research S.L.\MLicServer\Settings
• On 32-bit Windows systems, the setting will be stored under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mestrelab Research S.L.\MLicServer\Settings

2. Linux (MLicServer 3.0 and newer)

On Linux, the MLicServer service will read the settings from a system-wide configuration INI file.

2.1. What is an INI file?

An INI file is a simple text-based configuration file used by many applications to store settings. It is organized into sections identified by names enclosed in square brackets ([ ]), followed by one or more key-value pairs.

For example, to reserve Campus licenses for 60 days, the following must be found into the INI file:

[Settings]
CampusDays=60

In this example:

• Settings is the section name.
• CampusDays is the setting name (key).
• 60 is the setting value.

2.2. Editing the CampusDays setting:

1. Create or edit the following file: /etc/xdg/Mestrelab Research S.L./MLicServer.conf
2. Go to the [Settings] section:
   • If it does not exist just create it by typing [Settings] at the end of file
3. Search the setting name CampusDays
   • If it does not exsit just create it by typing CampusDays= just after the [Settings] section line
4. Set the desired value by typing it afte the = sign: CampusDays=30
5. Restart MLicServer:
   • Open a terminal or command line prompt into your Linux distribution
   • Run the command: sudo systemctl restart mestrelablicserver

3. Additional Notes

• CampusDays defines how many days a campus license remains reserved on a client computer.
• The minimum supported value is 30.
• Changes only affect new or renewed reservations.
• Restarting MLicServer after modifying the setting is mandatory.
